Visa Appointment & Processing Wait Times

On this page:

Advance travel planning and early visa application are important. If you plan to apply for a nonimmigrant visa to come to the United States as a temporary traveler, please review the information about visa appointment & processing wait time available at link.

Some visa applications require further administrative processing, which takes additional time after the visa applicant’s interview by a Consular Officer. When administrative processing is required, the timing will vary based on individual circumstances of each case. Visa applicants are reminded to apply early for their visa, well in advance of the anticipated travel date.

Information about nonimmigrant visa wait times for interviews and visa processing time frames are different.  The time frames for both are shown on this website at link. It should be noted that the “Wait Times for a Nonimmigrant Visa to be Processed” information by country does not include time required for administrative processing. Processing wait time also does not include the time required to return the passport to applicants.

Wait time for interview

It refers the estimated wait time to receive an interview appointment to apply at a U.S. Embassy or Consulate.

Wait Time for Processing

The wait time for a visa to be processed refers to the time it typically takes the visa to be ready for pick-up or delivery by courier after the Consular Officer has made the decision to issue.
