Submitting 221(g) Documents

The U.S. Embassy may give you a 221(g) letter/green sheet directing you to submit additional documents or information related to your visa application. Your application will be kept on hold at the U.S. Embassy until you submit those documents.

All documents and information requested in a 221(g) letter must be submitted within one year from the date you received the 221(g) letter. Failure to submit the required information within one year will result in the suspension of your visa application. You will be required to submit a new visa application and pay all associated fees in order to continue with your visa application process.

How to Submit 221(g) Documents

Electronic Copies via Email

If you received instructions to send via email an electronic copy of a document, send it in PDF to the U.S. Embassy which issued your 221(g) letter. Attachments must not exceed 3MB. Please email pending documents to:

Submitting documents in hardcopy

If you received instructions to submit original documents then the following delivery options are available:

  • Drop your documents at the VFS Indian Visa Application center which is located at Weststrasse 2, 3005 Bern. There is no cost for using this delivery option. When dropping the documents at the location, we kindly ask you to present a printed copy of the 221g letter which you can print from this page.
  • The second option is to mail your documents to the US Embassy using Swiss post services. This option requires the payment of a delivery fee which can be done by accessing this link If you would like to proceed with this option, please contact our partner VFS global at with the proof of payment and they will respond with a Swiss post pre-paid label. 

Regardless of the chosen delivery option, your documents will be delivered to the US Embassy in Bern. You may track the delivery of your documents on this page or via Swiss post tracking web site, if you chose this delivery option.
