Passport/Visa Delivery Information

Overview

If your visa application is approved, your passport and visa will be returned to you via the delivery options of your choice. You will receive a notification via e-mail and SMS as soon as your passport is ready to be delivered/for collection.

You may choose to have your passport and visa returned to your home/business address in Switzerland or Lichtenstein via courier service or collect them from a dedicated pick-up location in Bern.

If you do not have a Swiss or Liechtenstein address, you may only choose the pickup option.

Pickup from VFS Global office in Bern

You have the option to pick up your passport from following pick-up location. This delivery option is free of charge.

       Opening hours: Monday to Friday from 9:00am to 11:00am and from 12:00pm to 4:00pm

You will be notified by email and SMS as soon as the passport is ready for collection. 

You must collect your passport within 14 calendar days. After that the passport will be returned to the Embassy. 

When you come to the VFS Global location to pick-up your passport, you must present a valid photo ID (driver’s license, or identification card). If somebody else will pick up the passport on your behalf, that person will have to present an authorization letter and a valid photo ID (passport, driver’s license, or identification card).

Premium Home Delivery with the Swiss Post

With this delivery option, your passport will be returned to the delivery address indicated on your profile. There is an additional fee required for this service in the amount of CHF 18,50. This premium fee is paid online at the time you schedule your visa interview.

The passport will be only be delivered against a signature by the person mentioned as the recipient. 

Note: In the event that your visa is refused, you are entitled to a refund of the Premium Service (Home Delivery) fee as purchased by credit/debit card on the www.gtspremium.com website only. Within 5 business days of the visa refusal, you must send an email to refunds@gtspremium.com, along with your DS-160 barcode number. Once received, GTS will review the refund request and, once validated, will issue a refund to your credit/debit card on file within 10 business days. Applicants who apply via a group payment and who were denied a visa are also entitled to a refund by following the above steps. Refunds are not permitted under any other circumstances. 

Note: All visas are mailed via the Swiss Post to the applicant’s address in Switzerland or Liechtenstein. Visas are not generally available for pick up at the Embassy.

Change Delivery Options

You may change your preferred document delivery address online or through the call center until midnight before the day of your interview appointment. 

We strongly advise you not to change the delivery address after the time limit, as this will lead to a delay in your passport delivery.

Please note that passports will only be delivered to a valid address within Switzerland and Liechtenstein.

Check the Status of Your Visa

You can check the status of your application any time at this website: https://ceac.state.gov/CEACStatTracker/Status.aspx. Please wait at least three business days following your visa interview to check on the status of your application. The system may not have updated the status of your application prior to that time, and thus the message you receive may not reflect the actual status of your application.

For your convenience, you have several options to choose from to track the location of your passport.

Instant: Enter your passport number below to check on the status.

 

 

If your status shows "origination scan", it means your passport has left the Embassy or Consulate and is on its way to the delivery location you have chosen. It is however not available yet.

When the status shows "ready for pick up", it means that your passport is ready for delivery at the address indicated during the appointment scheduling process. You may track your delivery here. Please note that delivery information will be available on the Swiss Post website the next business day after receiving your tracking number.

The Embassy or the Consulate cannot help you regarding the status of your passport delivery. Please do not contact the Embassy or Consulate regarding the status of your passport delivery.

Email: Send an e-mail to passportstatus@ustraveldocs.com and in the subject and/or body enter a valid passport number exactly as it was entered at the time the appointment was scheduled. Do not include any additional text. You will receive an automatic response with the status.
