Q: Do children need a visa?

A: All travelers, including children, need a visa to travel to the United States or must qualify to travel without a visa through a special program, such as the Visa Waiver Program.

A: Every applicant requires an appointment.

Q: Do all children have to come in person for their appointment?

A: No, applicants under 14 years old who are legally resident in Hungary do not need to appear for an interview if at least one parent has a valid nonimmigrant visa.

Children who are 14 years old or older must appear for an interview, even if they previously had a U.S. visa issued before their 14th birthday. Parent(s) may accompany their children to the visa interview. The parent(s) should notify the Visa Unit of the Embassy through the Visa Information Service at least two days before their child’s interview. The parent should provide his/her name and the date and time of the interview.

Q: Do parents applying for children need to bring a birth certificate?

A: Yes, parents should bring an original or certified copy of each child’s birth certificate.
